Abstract
Prevention of infections in an assisted reproduction laboratory in a developing country. The aim of the current paper is to discuss prevention of infections in a public sector laboratory-orientated assisted reproduction treatment setting. Alternative viewpoints on resource management, semen decontamination for the human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) seropositive male and the subsequent choice of ART procedures, are addressed.

Die reproduktiewe gesondheidsprofiel, bekostigbaarheid en toegang tot gesondheidsdienste en hulpbronne sal die reproduktiewe welsyn van ’n persoon beïnvloed. Die doel van die huidige referaat is om ’n oorsig te lewer oor die voorkoming van infeksies in ge-assisteerde reproduktiewe behandelingsprogram (ARP) as deel van die publieke gesondheidsektor. Die reproduktiewe profiel met verwysing na die sifting vir seksuele oordraagbare infeksies, en bekostigbaarheid van sorg sal ook die tipe sifting en ARP skedulering bepaal. Alternatiewe uitgangspunte oor (1) hulpbron benutting van ’n ARP eenheid, (2) semen dekontaminasie vir menslike immuniteitsgebrek sindroom (MIV-1) seropositiewe mans en (3) daarop volgende keuse van ARP prosedure, skenker inseminasie, intra-uteriene inseminasies of intra-sitoplasmiese sperm inspuiting as eerste linie van behandeling, word bespreek. Ondersteuning vir veilige reproduksie van MIV-1 sero-verskillend genote word algemeen aanvaar en behoort ooreenkomstig toegepas te word in ’n toeganklike ARP program in ontwikkelende lande.
