Use of an expert system for identification of Lithops

Abstract

It is often very difficult for non-botanists to distinguish between and identify closely related plants. This article provides an overview of the use of a computer-based expert system for this purpose, specifically applied to Lithops - a group of succulents that presents numerous interspecific resemblances as well as intra-specific differences.
