Abstract
The importance of anthropometry, physical and motor skills, sport specific testing and sports vision techniques in the evaluation of adult male rugby. Sport has become an increasingly competitive field of expertise, thus it is imperative that an athlete is able to perform at the highest level possible at all times. Many coaches and athletes are under the false impression that performance is solely determined by physical capabilities and as a result, they fail to account for compounding factors such as: fitness levels, visual skills, body composition, nutritional status and the lifestyle habits of the athletes. If these are not optimised, they can affect a player’s performance both on and off the field. Sports Vision training is a specific, safe and legal technique which can be utilised to enhance performance. Ultimately motor skills bridge the gap between fitness and technical ability, thus it is vital in training for sporting excellence – as the body must be trained to respond to what the eyes see. Making use of Sports Vision techniques, the visual system can be trained and improved in the same way that sport specific drills improve the overall performance of an athlete.

Inleiding
Sport is ‘n toenemend mededingende gebied van kundigheid, dus is dit noodsaaklik dat ‘n atleet te alle tye op die hoogste moontlike vlak kan presteer. Baie afrigters en atlete is onder die valse indruk dat prestasie uitsluitlik bepaal word deur fisiese vermoëns en as gevolg daarvan het hulle versuim om in ag te neem faktore soos: fiksheidsvlakke, visuele vaardighede, liggaam samestelling, voedingstatus en die lewenstyl van die atlete. As dit nie geoptimaliseer word nie, kan dit ‘n speler se prestasie beïnvloed beide op en van die veld af. Sport Visie opleiding is ‘n spesifieke, veilige en wettige tegniek wat aangewend kan word om prestasie te verbeter.

Materiale en metodes
Vier en vyftig manlike rugby spelers, 18–26 jaar oud, was onderworpe aan verskeie antropometriese, fiksheid, visuele en sport-spesifieke toetse. Voor en na Sport Visie oefeninge of tegnieke was uitgevoer, waartydens elke speler as sy eie kontrole gedien het.

Resultate
‘n Nie-parametriese Wilcoxon Signed rang toets is gebruik om verwante veranderlikes te vergelyk om te bepaal of die bevolking gemiddeldes verskil. Verbeterings in fiksheid, liggaam samestelling, fisieke en motoriese vaardighede en Sport Visie tegnieke toon ‘n positiewe invloed op die spelers se prestasie.

Bespreking en gevolgtrekking
Dit is belangrik om te besef dat hierdie faktore ‘n aanduiding is van ‘n speler se huidige vlak van gesondheid en fisiologiese werking. Daarom kan hierdie faktore algehele prestasie en welsyn van ‘n atleet aansienlik beïnvloed. Hierdie studie het getoon dat wanneer hierdie sleutelveranderlikes geoptimaliseer word en sport spesifieke oefeninge en Sport Visie tegnieke of opleiding toegepas word, word die sport prestasie van die atleet aansienlik verbeter. Hierdie tegnieke vertel die liggaam hoe om te reageer op ‘n spesifieke visuele stimulus en lei die liggaam op om as ‘n eenheid op te tree. Dit laat toe dat atlete oor die mededingende voordeel beskik wat nodig is vir sport uitnemendheid.>
