Barium hexaferrite ceramic permanent magnets were manufactured using a locally produced iron oxide. The effect of sintering temperature on the coercivity, remanence, shape of the hysteresis loops, density and shrinkage was studied. The results indicated that grain growth during the sintering process limited the sintering temperature to 1 200 °C for this material in order to obtain satisfactory values for the coercivity, while remanence and density were optimum at a higher sintering temperature of about 1 230 °C.
