Abstract

A reliable but slow functioning respirometer was compared with a newly designed Clark-electrode respirometer. The material used during the measurements was Labeo capensis, a fresh-water mudfish. The results were statistically analysed. It was found that the Clark-electrode respirometer gave, on average, about 2% higher readings compared with the manometric respirometer developed by Scholander.
