Abstract

The extent of the soil erosion problem in South Africa as well as the various models which have been used in other parts of the world to quantify the problem are mentioned. It is indicated that these models are not designed to determine the potential danger of erosion. The model suggested in this study can be used to determine the potential danger of erosion in any area using only four variables, viz, erosivity, gradient, soil erodibility and plant cover.
