Potential fractures should be predicted in advance, but with the minimum disruption of mining activities. Existing as well as newly developed techniques are integrated into a single compact system to measure the three most relevant rope parameters, which are: cross sectional area, number of broken wires and the ohmic contact between wires. These parameters are measured simultaneously, in situ, in a non destructive manner.
